The Great Park in Irvine Phase 1 Complete - Grand Opening August 5th with Free Concert #GreatParkSportsPark

It's a Big Weekend For The Great Park in Irvine!

Living in the Irvine area for over 30 years, I have watched the growth of our local cities, parks and communities.

It is wonderful to see that the massive space of land, once knows as the El Toro Marine Base, is being used for so many outdoor and family friendly activities!

We have already been to a few awesome soccer matches played by the Orange County Soccer Club and can not wait to see the team in action in their new home!

Come out to the Great Park (my favorite of the OC Parks) this Saturday and celebrate with everyone!

Here are the deets behind the GRAND OPENING of Phase 1 the Sports Park at the Great Park!
The first phase of the 194-acre Orange County Great Park Sports Park is making its debut Saturday, August 5.

To celebrate the new community addition, FivePoint and Irvine city officials are hosting a day-long festival of family-friendly games, sneak peeks at the amenities, demos and sports clinics with well-known athletes and food trucks. The celebration will close with a grand finale of a free Blues Brothers concert!

In Landmark Public-Private Partnership, Orange County Great Park Sports Park Opens with Daylong, Celebrity-Filled Events; Youth Sporting Exhibitions; Food Truck Frenzy: and a Blues Brothers Concert
Details on the Family Friendly Event August 5th:

FivePoint and Irvine city officials will host a free “community open house” to offer a first-hand look at the 53-acre first phase of the Sports Park. Attendees will be treated to a day long festival of family-friendly games, including sneak peeks at the world-class amenities, demonstrations and sports clinics with well-known athletes, including Landon Donovan, Amy Rodriguez and Brad Friedel; and savory eating at 14 food and dessert trucks. The grand-opening celebration will culminate in a free concert featuring Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi of the Blues Brothers.

Built on the site of the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, the Sports Park is ultimately planned to be nearly twice the size of Disneyland and is the result of an innovative public-private partnership between the City of Irvine and FivePoint, the development manager of Great Park Neighborhoods. The first phase: a world-class youth sports facility that complements the award-winning schools, vibrant economy and well-planned neighborhoods that help Irvine rank consistently as one of the best places to live.

Once complete, the 194-acre Sports Park is planned to include a dedicated softball complex with five fields, a championship stadium and four batting cages; a baseball complex with seven baseball fields, also with a championship stadium and four batting cages; plus, four basketball courts, six more soccer fields and “flex fields” that can be used for rugby, cricket and lacrosse.

WHERE: Orange County Great Park

Planned in conjunction with the City of Irvine since 2013, the Sports Park is funded and built by FivePoint’s partnership (Heritage Fields, LLC) with the city as part of the company’s broader commitment to develop and improve 688 acres of the Great Park with public amenities.

The FivePoint partnership plans to spend approximately $250 million creating its portion of the Great Park, an estimated $75 million more than required by agreements with the City of Irvine. The Sports Park is on track to become the largest public multisport facility in California and one of the largest in the United States.

WOW - The Great Park looks like it is shaping up to the a hub for everyone to enjoy the outdoors, nature, sports, family, music, sights, community involvement and so much more!
