Baby Penguin at the Aquarium of the Pacific

Seriously so cute. A baby penguin hatched at the +Aquarium of the Pacific !

PENGUIN CHICK HATCHES AT THE AQUARIUM OF THE PACIFIC

The chick will leave the nursery to join its parents and siblings in the Aquarium’s June Keyes Penguin Habitat on Tuesday, August 18, 2015

Note from the Aquarium:

The Aquarium of the Pacific is announcing the birth of a Magellanic Penguin chick. The baby will make its public debut and join the other penguins in the June Keyes Penguin Habitat on Tuesday, August 18. The public can see the chick starting when the Aquarium opens that morning at 9:00 a.m.

The chick hatched on June 5 and represents the third generation of Aquarium-born penguins. Four penguins hatched in 2014 (Paddles, Jayde, Mattson, and Skipper) and two in 2013 (Heidi and Anderson). Penguins Roxy and Floyd are the parents of this year’s chick, and Heidi and Anderson are the chick’s siblings. Magellanic Penguin chicks are born with a downy layer of plumage that is not watertight. For safety reasons, the Aquarium’s penguin chicks are removed from their nests after twenty-five days to a behind-the-scenes nursery until their down is replaced by watertight juvenile feathers, a process called fledging. The chick’s gender will be determined through a blood test around the time it fledges. During its time in the nursery, the chick will learn to swim and to take hand-fed fish.

The public can help support the nonprofit’s new penguin chick through the Adopt an Animal program. People who adopt a chick at the $50 level or above will be entered into an opportunity drawing for a penguin encounter and a one-of-a-kind painting by a penguin chick. For details, visit aquariumofpacific.org/adopt.

Magellanic Penguins are a temperate species native to the coasts of Argentina and Chile in South America. It takes between thirty-eight and forty-three days of incubation before a Magellanic Penguin egg will hatch. Chicks hatch with their eyes closed, and they are able to open their eyes about a week later. Magellanic Penguin parents take turns incubating the eggs on the nest and feeding and raising the chicks after they hatch.

On exhibit starting Tuesday, August 18, 2015 - Aquarium opens to public at 9:00 a.m.

Head over to the AOP to check out this little cutie and get one more summer visit in before school starts!

Discovery Cube OC Is Cool Summer Fun

Discovery Cube OC is keeping Summer Cool!

We had so much fun at +DiscoveryCubeOC . yesterday. We had not been there in a few years. We most definitely had not seen the expansion and we were super impressed with it all!

So excited as we exited the freeway my kiddo had to snap a pic!

My daughters 5 favorite activities yesterday were:
* Planetary Research Station - Where we sent a satellite into space and tracked it.
* The Shake Shack - Interactive Earthquake
* The Winds of a Hurricane - See how much force of the winds you can tolerate!
* The Helicopter Tour - Very realistic flight simulated over sights like Irvine, Newport and OC Landmarks.
* Inspector Training Course  - Goes hand in hand prep to the Sherlock Holmes exhibit there now!
She heard there was going to be a Hot Wheels  event and wants to attend with her brother since she says that is his favorite... well it is for sure his fav!

Grocery Shopping - Scan and Save!
There is so much to see and do we did not want to leave but we had to pick up my son from summer school so we had to head out for the day. We got all of this fun in between 10am and 1pm. So much more to do so we will be returning.

We were unable to see the Rocket Lab area since it was closed for the day but I hope to return with my husband too, I know he will love it!

Also DID YOU KNOW that Discover Science OC has kids camps. Find out more here!

Until next time...

3 Ingredient Banana IceCream

3 Ingredient Banana Ice Cream in a Flash!

My daughter is always asking for ice cream. Always. So when she asked last night, we were out and it was too late to head to the store, I figured let's make some.

We started out with 2 bananas.
We froze the bananas for about 30 mins.
We took bananas out and put them into our Ninja blender.
We put about 1/4 cup of milk.
We added in about 1/4 cup of ice.

Blended it up and had fresh ice cream.

Take out the milk and just use ice and is just as fresh and tasty!

Next time we want to do strawberries and make it more of a sorbet or fresh fruit ice taste.

So good, so easy and so fresh.

What is your favorite ice cream flavor and what brand do you love most?

Happy Summer,

Ramada Maingate at the Park Staycation

First Timers!! Our first time staying across the street of Disneyland!
Over 10 years of having passes and we have never stayed and played at the DLR. This time it was different. It was my daughters 8th birthday, she was turning 8 on the 8th and we had the opportunity to make it super special with a staycation at the Ramada Maingate at the Park.

It was the best experience. From the moment we found out that annual pass holders are given early check in if available we knew it would be an amazing stay.
Panoramic View of RMGATP
We were excited to hit the pool, after all we did just spend 3 hours inside the parks and, it was HOT. (if your room is NOT ready , you CAN still swim with a pool key - how cool is that.. pun intended on a hot day hehe) We left the parks and checked in.

Our room was filled with surprises. My daughter was so surprised to find a birthday present waiting for her. It was the nicest touch. I mentioned that we had a birthday celebrating and that was an awesome surprise.
Two Room Suite with two queen beds
We had an awesome room with 2 queen beds, microwave, mini fridge and a beautiful view. I just had to have coffee looking out a few times during our stay.

Got into the pool and play area. I loved it.
Let me say that my favorite part was that there was a beach side setting where you step into 1 foot of water for a while and then it gradually gets a bit deeper and stops at about 5 feet. Perfect for my 3.5yo and 8yo! There were also two sides of water play with pipes and spray for those that wanted to get a little wet or a lot.
We enjoyed a walk back over to the parks. Yes a walk - it was a total of 5 minutes with a long red light we got stuck at.. the only light.... Check out some of our walks back and forth on +Periscope  live feed here.

We loved seeing the night shows that are featured for the Disneyland 60 Diamond Celebration! It was so magical to see my kids smiling ear to ear and loving every moment of our staycation. Disney is so special to us. Since I was a kid I have been enjoying the parks with my parents and am blessed to be able to do the same with my own family.

As your Ramada Maingate at the Park Disney Insider here are a few Disney Diamond Celebration 60th shots.

We were able to catch World of Color - best part - we are never able to see the show all together since my son does not last that long and he is usually at speech or early start school. We were given blue seating (pretty amazing seats) so that we could all enjoy a show together for my daughters birthday and my son was able to last with his ASD behavior issues the entire time since were were able to return for the show only. It was great and such a treat!

After the show we were at the door of our room in less than 5 minutes. Easiest walk. Easier than walking from the parking structure to the main gate.

Ahhh...up the elevator and into our room...We had the best sleep. The beds were comfy and the kids knocked out before we could get their shoes off.. My daughter was in the middle of telling me how she loved the day so much and was starring out the window at the most beautiful view of the Tower of Terror... her favorite ride! Just perfect!

I woke up to the smell of tasty coffee and enjoyed the view myself before the kids got up. We knew we wanted to let them sleep for a bit. My husband was able to go down and bring up some plates of breakfast from the continental breakfast that RMATP offers it's guests. We enjoyed fresh fruit, biscuits and gravy, toast, donuts and much more. Kids loved the juice, milk and we loved the coffee.
After breakfast I walked our birthday girl over to Disneyland Downtown Disney (again less than 5min) and surprised her with a visit to Anna and Elsa boutique with her friend. It is their tradition every year to get their hair and make up done together since their birthdays are a few weeks apart. They loved it and my baby was again surprised! Score!!
We walked back over to our room and the boys were ready to rock some lunch. What was awesome was that we asked the front desk if we could keep our car and because there was room in the parking lot we were allowed to keep our car parked there. It never hurts to ask and at Ramada Maingate at the Park they try to accommodate best they can!

We walked back over to Disneyland!

We ate lunch at the delicious Big Thunder Ranch BBQ!!! All you can eat and so good you just don't want to stop.

We had the best lunch with our family and were ready to head back, say goodbye and thank you for the wonderful stay to our friends at the front desk.
After all my baby did get a few special treats for her birthday fun.... another was this yummy cupcake at the end of lunch.

On our way out we rode a family favorite - it was a great day - again.
We left a few thank you's for the staff at the front desk too and of course left 4 passes for that nights Fantasmic for a family checking in... you know we have to pay it forward!

We left feeling like we spent a few days doing what we love, visiting a place we love and staying in a place that totally loved on us! The greatest part was that we were asked how our check in was, how our stay was and how we felt it was while we were there. The customer service is top notch, and it should be since your steps away from the main gate of the Disneyland Resort itself.

We can not wait to get back to the Ramada Maingate at the Park for more fun. Our next visit needs to include sitting the balcony in front of our room and enjoying the fireworks... the view from all the rooms is unique and not to be missed in the evening or sunrise!

Thanks for having us Ramada and for making our family staycation birthday celebration top notch magical! Hope to see you soon... I have a birthday and anniversary coming up... I am thinking already!!!

Our 5 most Favorite Things About RMATP:
* The Pool Play Area
* The View of the Parks - Specifically Tower of Terror
* The VERY short walk to the parks
* The comfy beds
* The amenities in room

These were discussed by our family as a whole. I have a feeling If my husband and I went alone for a visit we would have 5 different favorites!
