Autism, Picky Eating, Diabetes Scare, Visitng CHOC E.R. & Following my Mama Instinct all in a Weekend...

We had to take our son to CHOC last Saturday.

Let me back up to the week leading up.

Last Thursday through Sunday we were in Idyllwild for family time and Silverlakes Norco for soccer.

Everything all weekend went well, we had a lot of fun exploring the winter snow a bit, winning a championship at the soccer field and getting ready for the week.

I noticed Mikey was saying he was a bit more tired than usual, he seemed to want to rest a bit more than hike or play and that's not like him at all when were outdoors.

I made note cause I know my boy very well. Since he does have his quirks and sensory things here and there he's pretty easy to read and his communication is getting a lot better with verbalizing what's going on.

After we returned I noticed on Monday and Tuesday he was still saying he was itchy here and there but with no signs of why he would be visible to the eye on the skin. He also by Tuesday started to drink a lot of water and by a lot I mean like double what he was normally drinking.

Wednesday morning rolled around and he had an accident during the night. Wednesday he seemed to urinate more and drink a lot. Still saying he was itchy.

Wednesday after school he said his ear was bothering him. I called the doctor, meanwhile no raised pulse or fever. They could not see him until Friday late, so I pulled him from school early and went to urgent care. The Dr. said that his left ear was infected and could have been causing him to be off and feeling this way. She prescribed antibiotics and sent us on our way.

Mikey started to tell me his hands and feet were tingly and sleepy. That raised flags for me. He also said his eyes were watery and when I asked him if his vision was blurry or fuzzy he said yes. Sometimes it's hard to tell what he may be wanting to express with the communicating. I have to draw out info and ask for details often with my little love.

Of course its Friday night and our pediatrician is now closed and when I google, I know but the symptoms were worrying me, it came up... signs of diabetes.

Because we do have diabetes in our family history and because my son is such a picky eater that I can tell you all 15 to 20 things he eats, yes we've done feeding therapy in the past and are re visiting that, I was worried.

I called CHOC and decided I would take him into the ER in the morning. That way it would be fasting and they would be able to run some tests as needed fasting and then perhaps after a snack. Again all was fine and no other complaints or elevated symptoms and at this time none of the above was going on at the moment or all night.

MainPlace Mall Unveils “A Christmas Story”-Themed Interactive New Holiday Experience

More From MainPlace Mall & Holiday Festivities - You Wont Want to Miss This!

MainPlace Mall, a three-story super-regional shopping center in Santa Ana, California, announced it's holiday activities schedule as well as the introduction of an exciting new Santa set inspired by the fan-favorite Warner Bros. film A Christmas Story

The new set modernizes the traditional Santa visit, offering guests a branded family entertainment experience that will appeal to visitors of all ages - not just families with children. The new walk-through set combines the best elements of today’s highly popular “selfie museums” and augmented reality interactive experiences. A rendering of the new set can be viewed and downloaded here: http://ow.ly/aQdv30pHu7t.

“The brand-new ‘A Christmas Story’-themed holiday experience debuting this year at MainPlace Mall is an incredible change from the traditional Santa sets shoppers have grown accustomed to over the years,” says Jonathan Maher, Senior General Manager of the shopping center. “The new experience, based on the film, A Christmas Story, features an array of photo opportunities, an augmented reality app that really brings the set to life, and period-specific décor that will immerse our visitors in the Parker family home and the 1940s-era time period. With this new interactive attraction, the journey to see Santa has just become as much fun as the visit itself.”

According to MainPlace Mall’s owner, Centennial, a real estate investment firm with a national portfolio of shopping, dining, entertainment and mixed-use destinations, the new set is one of four being introduced nationwide this year. Centennial also plans to tour these experiential holiday sets annually among several of its malls to provide visitors at each property — including MainPlace Mall — with an exciting new encounter year after year.

MainPlace Mall: “A Christmas Story” Holiday Set: Debuts November 13th
A cherished holiday film, A Christmas Story is the heartwarming narrative about Ralphie, a young boy in the 1940s who yearns for a special present for Christmas. The experience at MainPlace Mall incorporates many of the most famous scenes from the movie, and because the movie was set in the ‘40s, it provides an opportunity for different generations to share memories as they admire replicas of period-specific food items, appliances and furnishings and hear the sounds of an antique radio playing in the background.

Visitors to the experience at MainPlace Mall can take pictures in front of Ralphie’s family home, inside the Parker family kitchen, and as a paid addition, alongside the movie’s iconic leg lamp. Using the set’s free augmented reality app, guests can even don a pink bunny suit or watch the neighbor’s bloodhounds knock over the table and steal the Christmas turkey - all before visiting and taking professional photos with Santa and sliding down the movie’s famous slide to exit the set.

“Working so closely with Warner Bros. Consumer Products has been an incredible experience,” says John Carter, CEO and Design Director at Parker 3D. “By taking the key scenes from such a treasured Warner Bros. holiday film and combining them with the artistic talents of our very creative design team, we’ve developed an incredible multi-sensory experience that will engage, entertain and amaze families waiting to visit with Santa Claus as well as teens and senior citizens looking for a new and interesting way to experience the holidays.”

Hot Dog! There is a New Mixed Up Adventure Headed Your Way With Mickey & Friends

Thank you Disney Channel for having us out to preview Mickey Mouse Mixed Up Adventures. All opinions are my own.

We had an amazing morning previewing the new Disney Channel show... Mickey's Mixed Up Adventures!

We started out the morning with a preview of the new show in the screening theater.

Mikey thought it was so very cool. He was right.

After the screening we were treated to a pixie dust filled lunch spread, perfect for the kids and adults.

The amazing Disney team had coloring pages set out, activities to play and something to eat.. I mean how kid friendly is all of that?! Thank you!

The new show Mickey Mouse Mixed Up Adventures is wonderful... an updated version of what my 12 year old used to watch when she was my son's age.

We loved it & had a hot dog adventure.... the best part is that Mickey turns a mix up of what seems to be a mess into something magical with a positive twist!

My son's favorite things about it all....

* Mickey is still solving problems & making friends smile.
* The mixed up mess made for a fun way to make it all right.
* It was very funny, so, so funny.
* The Hot Dog dance and song is back & better than ever.

Support Autism Awareness with Lucille's BBQ & Round It Up!! #LucillesBBQ

We Love Lucille's & Even More So We Love That Lucille's BBQ Supports Autism Awareness!

Thanks to Lucille's BBQ for helping spread the word and education on fundraising for Autism during the month of April!

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que teamed up with three autism organizations to raise awareness and funds during the month of April to support the autism community.
Donations will be accepted through Round It Up America contributions – in which guests “round up” their purchases to the nearest dollar – at all 24 Lucille’s locations throughout Arizona, California and Nevada. For donations of $5 or more Lucille’s will give guests a $10 bonus card good for a return visit between May 1 and June 30, 2019.

The Deets...

Southern California’s favorite family-owned award winning barbeque destination, Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar-B-Que restaurants are dishing up Southern-inspired plates for a cause. In honor of April’s Autism Awareness Month, Lucille's  teamed up with three autism organizations to raise awareness and funds during the month of April to support the autism community. The three organizations include Autism Speaks, the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center and the Grant a Gift Autism Foundation.

“For a fourth year, we are proud to support the autism community in their efforts to learn more about this condition that affects as many as 1 in 59 children nationwide,” said Brad Hofman, President, Hofman Hospitality Group, parent company of Lucille’s Smokehouse Bar B Que. “We have seen how Lucille’s family can make a difference when we come together for a common cause, and we look forward to continuing to support these organizations.”

Lucille’s will donate to these three worthy causes through Round It Up America contributions – in which guests “round up” their purchases to the nearest dollar – at all 24 Lucille’s locations throughout Arizona, California and Nevada.

For donations of $5 or more made during the month of April, Lucille’s will give guests a $10 bonus card good for a return visit between May 1 and June 30, 2019 (one per table, please).
As another way to support these organizations, Lucille’s will be serving up a drink called the “Rhythm and Blues,” inspired by the color for autism awareness and is made from fresh blueberries and mint hand shaken with Tito's Vodka, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur and fresh lime juice. For each Rhythm and Blues sold in April, Lucille’s will donate an additional $1 towards the cause.

Lucille’s restaurants are reminiscent of a Southern roadhouse with a distinctive Southern décor that features reclaimed wood outline doors and windows for a rustic yet contemporary look. Lucille’s features blues-inspired art throughout the restaurant and the Flying Pig lounge.
Lucille’s has been participating in Round It Up America, platform that encourages restaurant guests to donate change; over the past ten years, Round It Up America has collectively raised millions of dollars for charitable organizations and programs across the country.

Our Story & Autism...

Autism is in our home. It's in our daily lives but it does not control our lives.

We work very hard with a lot of supportive others and have come a long way with our son.

Diagnosed at age 2 we started early start and all programs we could for speech, communication, behavior and feeding.

Today my now 7 year old is thriving educationally and loving life in mainstream first grade and we continue to support and work on things.

Do we have challenges, yes... do we hit our goals and create harder challenging ones, yes... do we support others in their efforts to help their ASD family or friend, yes... teamwork makes the dream work.

Dr. Yoonessi of My Pediatric and Respiratory Clinic Entertaining My 20 (okay maybe 200) Questions

Getting to Know Dr. Yoonessi and My Pediatric & Respiratory Care Clinic

I had the lovely opportunity of asking Dr. Yoonessi my own questions about what is important to me about my families health care options and Dr. preferences.

All opinions are my own and all questions were my own.

Talking with Dr. Yoonessi I felt that My Pediatric & Respiratory Care Clinic has the priority of families and children at the top of their list.

Health and wellness within daily lifestyle is important to my family and Dr. Yoonessi was so energetic and passionate when speaking to me about how important health care and honesty to her patients is to her.

Health care honesty seemed to come up often in our conversation. Dr. Yoonessi made it clear that she desires, strives and works daily to be a trusted resource in and to the community.

Since she specializes in respiratory care but has a passion for all pediatrics Dr. Yoonessi has some major future plans!

With bigger dreams to bring an all inclusive integrated treatment center with many facets and resources under one roof it is easy to be excited for the next level of care she wants to provide.

Dr. Yoonessi and I talked about special needs and Autism specifically. I shared with her that my son is on the Autism spectrum and very high functioning. I also let her know of a few concerns, questions and uncertainty I had but that I wanted help with.

She was more than willing to share her own thoughts and expert experiences as well as point me in the direction of more resources and go to materials to extend my knowledge on what I needed for what I was asking.

Interviewing Dr. Yoonessi (I do this with any Dr. or medical professional I may send my kids to) made me feel like I have known her for a while.

An instant connection with a medical professional who was listening to me, hearing my concerns, helping me with what my children may need and offering extended resources.

Dr. Yoonessi has a great knowledge on sensory and special needs and expressed to me how early intervention for any delay is key. I couldn't agree more as a mother of a child with Aspergers.

Dr. Yoonessi completed her master's in Public Health and is very community driven. Community is key to her. She provides community outreach programs monthly and to support not only the children with healthy diets and such but with families as well providing health educational classes too.

I really appreciate that Dr. Yoonessi is inspired to continue her dedication to community health and wellness.

You can see her interview recently with KNX 1070 on Ibuprofen safety and also an interview on the dangers of liquid nitrogen.

You can find that interview here…

Dr. Yoonessi continues to research topics in children's healthcare important to her as well as studying certain things that affect pediatrics.

It was a pleasure chatting with Dr. Yoonessi and I love that she is an animal lover too. Horses and dogs have come to share her heart with her love of children.

Compassion and empathy are important to her and it shows in all aspects of her life.
