MainPlace Mall, a three-story super-regional shopping center in Santa Ana, California, announced it's holiday activities schedule as well as the introduction of an exciting new Santa set inspired by the fan-favorite Warner Bros. film A Christmas Story.
The new set modernizes the traditional Santa visit, offering guests a branded family entertainment experience that will appeal to visitors of all ages - not just families with children. The new walk-through set combines the best elements of today’s highly popular “selfie museums” and augmented reality interactive experiences. “The brand-new ‘A Christmas Story’-themed holiday experience debuting this year at MainPlace Mall is an incredible change from the traditional Santa sets shoppers have grown accustomed to over the years,” says Jonathan Maher, Senior General Manager of the shopping center. “The new experience, based on the film, A Christmas Story, features an array of photo opportunities, an augmented reality app that really brings the set to life, and period-specific décor that will immerse our visitors in the Parker family home and the 1940s-era time period. With this new interactive attraction, the journey to see Santa has just become as much fun as the visit itself.”
According to MainPlace Mall’s owner, Centennial, a real estate investment firm with a national portfolio of shopping, dining, entertainment and mixed-use destinations, the new set is one of four being introduced nationwide this year. Centennial also plans to tour these experiential holiday sets annually among several of its malls to provide visitors at each property — including MainPlace Mall — with an exciting new encounter year after year.
MainPlace Mall: “A Christmas Story” Holiday Set: Debuts November 13th
A cherished holiday film, A Christmas Story is the heartwarming narrative about Ralphie, a young boy in the 1940s who yearns for a special present for Christmas. The experience at MainPlace Mall incorporates many of the most famous scenes from the movie, and because the movie was set in the ‘40s, it provides an opportunity for different generations to share memories as they admire replicas of period-specific food items, appliances and furnishings and hear the sounds of an antique radio playing in the background.
Visitors to the experience at MainPlace Mall can take pictures in front of Ralphie’s family home, inside the Parker family kitchen, and as a paid addition, alongside the movie’s iconic leg lamp. Using the set’s free augmented reality app, guests can even don a pink bunny suit or watch the neighbor’s bloodhounds knock over the table and steal the Christmas turkey - all before visiting and taking professional photos with Santa and sliding down the movie’s famous slide to exit the set.

Visit with Santa Claus: November 13th - December 24thChildren and their families are invited to drop off letters to Santa, share their Christmas wish lists with Santa Claus and have a professional photo taken from November 13th through December 24th. Santa will be located in his new “A Christmas Story” home on Level 1 in Macy’s Court. The new “A Christmas Story” interactive Santa set, which will entertain people of all ages - from families with children to teens, single adults and senior citizens - is free and open to the public. Santa’s Arrival: November 15th
The entire community is invited to join MainPlace Mall in welcoming Santa Claus to his new “A Christmas Story” home on Friday, November 15th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Following Santa’s arrival, children and their families will be able to meet some of Santa’s favorite elves, enjoy face painting and balloon twisting, and sip hot cocoa while listening to a DJ play festive holiday music. There will also be exciting giveaways available to the first 300 children to attend. This special fun-filled event, which takes place on Level 1 in Center Court is free and open to the public.
